Summary: Metalliferous sediments contain volcanic glass, biogenic calcite and opal, Fe-smectite, goethite, gamma -MnO2, carbonate-fluorapatite, and baryte. They are strongly enriched in Fe, Mn and other transition melts, and have REE distributions similar to those in sea-water.
